2018 Running Journey with Adobe India Runners

The run organized by Adobe India Runners (AIR) on this year’s International Yoga Day (21 June) reignited my running dreams – which were lying dormant since school days; so much so that I had registered for 3K but ran 5K that day. It was an intermittent jog and walk and drag for me– but it made me realize I was a 28-Year-old with a much older body.

Of course, it was never easy in the beginning, years of rust and cobwebs!
But the AIR WhatsApp Group, Strava Updates, and Yammer/Share-point kept me hooked to running. The Fireside chats with the likes of Max Long and Conrad Smith have been those thunderbolts of inspiration, every now and then. And all the Gyan from the WhatsApp group –implemented in bits and pieces – has helped me remain injury free.
And I should mention Adobe India Peddlers (AIP) here as well – I enjoyed my brief stint with them and I will get back to cycling someday.

The turning point, I feel, was the AIR’s 4-week 2k challenge – doing it no matter what, whether I was traveling, or slightly under the weather (I know it would have not been advised) made me fall in love with the ‘habit’ of running.

And now comes the twist in the tale: due to my engaged weekends (DMA Support schedules, Family, Friends, Travel), I have never actually run with the AIR athletes. It has been a virtual commitment, and yet feels like I personally know almost everyone – even the athletes from Bangalore. Those Strava ‘kudos’ keep me going on, along with the WhatsApp group.

The Global Energy Race, 23rd September, was my first official run. 10K in 64 Minutes.

All thanks to AIR, with people I haven’t even met before helping with Bibs and T-Shirts, cheering each other, I ran without caring for anything else.
Looking forward to meeting everyone after ADHM – I will be running 10K. And shall also strive to run with the group sometime soon.

It has been less than 4 months, and I can run 8-10K in the morning, do some house chores, and then go to the office. I run 3 days a week now, alternating with 3 days of Calisthenics/HIIT.

The changes I see in myself – lost around 14KGs extra body weight, haven’t taken any medicine in last 4 months (used to have allergy, cold and head-aches sometimes), can eat and digest much more, feel more active throughout the day, etc.

I remember I was in class 11 (the year 2006) when I had tried to run 5K in a school event and hadn’t been able to complete it – so, in that way, I am fitter than I was in school.
But most important of all, I love the process of running itself now.
