OPEN MINDS, OPEN SOURCE @ OSUM MEETUP

CONVENTION HALL had an unconventional event on 25 March 2010, according to DAVIET standards. Students arranging a meetup, of a student club, launching a student magazine, with just the students present. And my my! It was so over-whelming to see a small bunch of juniors seriously interested in technology. True 'Bachelors' of Technology! Lawlz.

Well, the meetup had two basic purposes, one being the announcement of launch-date of OSUM DAVIET Magazine, “AMMO”, and other being the presentation on “UPGRADING FROM WINDOWS TO UBUNTU 9.10”. It was a 'choice' for students to attend the meetup, and maybe the students of DAVIET are still under the spell of attending 'Compulsory' events only (events where they get attendance for the lecture, just imagine!). However, we received a generous gathering, and Karanjeet Singh formally started the meetup. Ankit Anand, being the editor-in-chief of AMMO, told about the theme and the various sections of the magazine. He also gave the students present, the priveleged chance of submitting their articles on Open Source Technologies, and various other sections.
After that, the stage was all ours – the roommates of C-6. Kanav handled the difficult technical part, while I had basic features on my list. We took about 50 minutes, and I tell u, it was an awesome time. If at all canonical needs marketing personals, I think we two can apply. LOL!
The OSUM leaders had lined up a small tech and persona quiz at the end of the UBUNTU 9.10 session, the purpose of which was to indentify junior talent (and hopefully future leaders of OSUM).
At the end of the day, with million thoughts in mind, I had to force myself to come to a 'remark' I could give about the meetup (not because someone was asking, but because I wished to write this post). And all I could tell myself was, “We need thousands of more such events, in many of spheres of student's interests, before we can call this a college. But, for a start, I think we are GOING GREAT!”.

Keep It up, friends. We gonna need all your AMMO to fire up DAVIET! In the non-literal sense, I mean.

P.S. : OPEN SOURCE! OPEN SOURCE! How many of us read the open code actually? Nah..... Actually, it's just free softwares!!! (This comment should be read as motivation to read the code, and find where we can improvise!)
